Latest Project for Local Group Pays Tribute to Celebrated Italian Trattorias in Fully Renovated Intimate Space Open for Lunch, Dinner and Weekend Brunch

 Glowbal Restaurant Group is celebrating la bella vita and a renaissance of a restaurant experience that transports guests to the heart of Italian cuisine, culture and style with the official opening of its reimagined Trattoria by Italian Kitchen in the heart of Burnaby at 102-4501 Kingsway this Thursday, September 12.

Open Monday to Friday at 11:30 a.m. and weekends at 10:30 a.m., Trattoria by Italian Kitchen represents the latest project for the popular local restaurant group and pays homage to the celebrated hospitality and rustic fare found in Italian trattorias, where seasonally informed dishes made from scratch are paired with consummate service, an intimate atmosphere and a focused list of wines, cocktails and beer.

The space underwent a complete floor-to-ceiling renovation prior to the relaunch to impart a more refined, elegantly appointed and upscale experience reminiscent of the group’s popular Italian Kitchen on Burrard Street in downtown Vancouver. The newly reimagined Trattoria offers an expansive yet cozy layout that features a variety of private and semi-private rooms, an 18-seat pizza bar and a lush, landscaped 65-seat heated patio that allows guests to indulge in al-fresco dining experiences whatever the weather.

The back of house team is led by Italian born and raised Executive Chef Matteo Fontana, whose dishes reflect the distinct pride of place, time-honoured recipes and traditional techniques that have helped build Italian cuisine into one of the most beloved around the world. His dinner menu showcases unique tableside touches and authentic Italian antipasti, insalati, house-made fresh pastas dishes, forno-baked pizza and desserts and includes:

ANTIPASTI:

  • Mozzarella Carrozza (fried fior di latte, tomato fondue);

  • Suppli’ Di Carbonara (crispy breaded macaroni carbonara sticks);

  • Beef Carpaccio (mustard dressing, shaved Tuscan Pecorino, fried capers, baby arugula);

  • Shrimp & Calamari Fritto Misto (shishito pepper, Calabrian chili aioli);

  • Sicilian Clams (fennel, garlic, ‘Nduja sausage, white wine, parsley);

  • Radicchio Bocconcini (grilled radicchio stuffed with prosciutto, bocconcini, sour cherry reduction);

  • Bruschetta (choice of: tomato, basil and olive oil; roasted mushroom, pesto and Tuscan Pecorino; or Porosciutto, gorgonzola and marinated figs);

  • Tableside Prosciutto di Parma (marinated vegetables, roasted tomatoes, peperonata, forno bread).

INSALATI:

  • Caesar (baby gem lettuce, Parmigiano Reggiano, garlic croutons);

  • Caprese (vine-ripened tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, pesto);

  • Panzanella (fresh burrata, cucumber, tomato, red grapes, arugula, crispy focaccia, red wine vinaigrette). 

HAND-MADE PASTA:

  • Signature Truffle Spaghetti & Meatballs (black truffle cream sauce, tomato fondue, herbed ricotta);

  • Linguine Vongole (saffron linguine, clams, garlic, white wine, tomatoes, oregano, brown butter gremolata);

  • Nodi Marini Fra Diavolo (scallops, prawns, peperoncino, garlic, tomatoes, olive, capers, aglio e olio);

  •  Penne al Manzo (beef tenderloin, mushrooms, spinach, red wine gorgonzola cream);

  • 100-Layer Lasagna (Bolognese rosé);

  • Rigatoni Vodka All’Amatriciana (pancetta, San Marzano tomatoes, vodka, cream, pecorino, topped with burrata);

  • Bucatini Carbonara (guanciale, cracked black pepper, cream, poached egg, Pecorino Romano);

  • Tortelloni (stuffed with spinach & ricotta, sun-dried tomato cream, pesto);

  • Ravioles du Dauphiné (short rib & mascarpone stuffed, red wine cream sauce);

  • Pasta Platter (choice of three pastas).

PIZZA:

  • Margherita (tomato, basil, fior di latte);

  • Prosciutto (arugula, prosciutto di Parma, stracciatella, tomato sauce);

  • Hawaiian (spicy capocollo, roasted pineapple, pepperonata, fior di latte);

  • Funghi (smoked pancetta, mushrooms, creamed leeks, sprouts, potatoes);

  •  Formaggio (asiago, fior di latte, gorgonzola, rosemary, potatoes).

ENTRÉES:

  • Pan-Seared Sablefish (roasted Sicilian cherry tomato medley, olives, capers);

  • Chicken Milanese (hand pounded & breaded, San Marzano pomodoro sauce, fior di latte);

  • Eggplant Cutlet (breaded, roasted tomato coulis, baby arugula, burrata);

  • Forno-Roasted Chicken (herb marinated ½ chicken, grilled broccolini, roasted potatoes);

  • Forno-Roasted 16oz Rib Eye (black peppercorn butter, grilled broccolini, roasted potatoes);

  • Lamb Shank (creamy soft polenta, broccolini, gremolata, lamb jus).

DESSERT:

  • Signature Tableside Tiramisu for Two (mascarpone mousse, espresso soaked lady fingers, mocha, anglaise, fresh grated chocolate);

  • Caramela Budino (creamy toffee pudding, espresso Chantilly, chocolate cookie crumbs, amarena cherries);

  • Torta di Orange (citrus cake, vanilla crema Chantilly, candied orange, pistachio);

  • Chocolate Tart (chocolate cake, espresso cream, candied hazelnuts).

Trattoria’s Weekend Brunch menu showcases an array of sweet and savoury dishes such as Prosciutto Cotto or Mushroom Frittata (prosciutto cotto, roasted peppers and zucchini or spinach, leeks, sprouts and peas with fior di llatte, blistered tomatoes, brunch potatoes), Forno French Toast (milk bread, orange butter, maple syrup) and Eggs Benedict in a choice of Classic or Florentine (prosciutto cotto or sautéed spinach, English muffin, poached eggs, Hollandaise, brunch potatoes, mixed greens), as well as a selection of insalati, pizza, pasta and desserts.

 Trattoria also has plenty of reasons to indulge in culinary tours of the Italian countryside any day of the week with features like Tratt Tuesdays, when select hand-made pasta dishes such as its signature 100-Layer Lasagna, Bucatini Carbonara and Rigatoni Vodka all’Amatriciana are offered for $16 per person, Pizza & Wine Wednesdays, when all pizzas are $15 while select bottles and glasses of rosso, bianco, rosé and sparkling are available at 50% off, and daily lunch service featuring hand-stretched, forno-baked calzonesantipasti and fresh-baked bruschetta selections perfect for mid-day gatherings and office getaways.
