Covert Farms Family Estate
Covert Farms Family Estate is a 4th generation, family run organic farm, vineyard and winery that offers something fun for everyone. It’s a great place to visit if you are travelling with or without kids.
Tucked up above the north end of Oliver, BC - Covert Farms is a gem in the Okanagan and a must visit in my opinion.
I first heard about Covert Farms from a friend who visited with her husband last year and said they had a terrific time. I was happy to include this as one of our stops on this trip.
If wine is your thing be sure to book one of their private wine tastings. And if you bring your kids, they’ve added something new - a Kid’s Farm Tour and Tasting! How awesome is that? Parents can sit back and enjoy their pre-booked wine sampling while their children experience their own tour and/or tasting.
My husband and I took part in the 45 minute Private Epicurean Grand Reserve Tasting. Hosted outside under a covered patio, we sampled their wines and snacked on a beautiful charcuterie platter filled with locally sourced artisanal cheeses, cured meats, olives, crackers, jam, grainy mustard and fresh produce that’s grown on their farm. All their wines are estate grown in their certified organic vineyard. All of their spring releases this year are certified organic and they are working hard to transition to 100% certified organic wines.
Our Wine Tasting included: 2019 Sparkling Zinfandel, 2019 Sauvignon Blanc, 2019 Rosé, 2017 Zinfandel, 2017 Amicitia, 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon.
My favourite was the 2019 Rosé. Light, refreshing and delicious with notes of cherries and strawberries. Of course I had to purchase this bottle to enjoy at home.
While we were enjoying our wine tasting, my kids set out on their own adventure with the Mini Private Farm tour and Kids Epicurean Tasting. Lead by one of their guides, they embarked on a short walking tour to meet the resident chickens, baby ducks, ram and Daliah the potbelly pig. They even got to feed the baby llama, my son excitedly shared.
Once their tour was done, they washed up and joined us for their tasting. They each got 2 locally handcrafted juices, a selection of local artisanal cheese and meats, crackers, pickles and farm fresh produce. A vegetarian option is also available. Unfortunately, the Kids Mini Farm Tour is no longer available (it will be coming back next spring), but there is a self-guided mini farm tour available right now for kids, and it is free when booked alongside a tasting and tour.
One activity I wish we had time for was their Harvest Farm Tour. You hop aboard a 52’ cherry red pick up truck for a personally guided tour of their 650 acre estate. I’m told this is very popular and super fun.
All the wines were lovely. Most importantly my kids got to take part and had a blast. Add this to your things to do when you’re in the Okanagan!
