Road 13 Vineyards

It's always cool to visit wineries that you've already heard about and tried (and liked) their wine. So, I was really looking forward to our visit to Road 13 Vineyards. I've enjoyed their wine in the past so I was excited to try some of their premium wines that could only be purchased at the estate. For those that don't know, Road 13 Vineyards is one of Canada's top producing wineries, and is ranked top 5 by some of the most respected wine critics. So it's no surprise that they've won many awards.

When you visit the vineyard in Oliver, BC the first thing you'll notice as you drive up is that their main building resembles a castle! It is complete with huge gates and a draw bridge leading to their modern tasting room. It's a pretty unique location and setting! The view below to the valley is just as impressive.

Upon arriving, we were greeted with a glass of their 2019 Rosé. Our private tour guide gave us a nice tour through the building and shared some information with us about the history of the winery. Did you know that there are over 1300 varieties of grapes? And that each one likes to be grown in certain conditions? I certainly did not!

We also got to take a bit of a behind the scenes tour of the winery to see how they make their wine. Their fermentation room is pretty amazing, holding up to 600 barrels of wine at one time. That is a lot of wine!

Following the tour, we had a seat out on their beautiful patio overlooking the valley and tasted five of their notable wines.

My favourite was the 2019 Rosé and the Blind Creek 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon. They were both really lovely. Unfortunately the Cabernet was $105, which is a bit out of my price range, so I went home with a bottle of the Rosé. If I win the lottery I'll be back for that Cab!! =)

Road 13 is a beautiful winery that has many wonderful wines to choose from. Most bottles are affordable, and there are so many varieties that I'm sure there is something for everyone.
