Monte Creek Winery Unveils New Offerings Ahead of the 2024 Season

Monte Creek Winery Unveils New Offerings Ahead of the 2024 Season

Innovative Winemaking and New Experiences

Monte Creek Winery proudly announces their endeavours for the year. As the winery navigates the season, it continues to push the boundaries of cool climate viticulture, harness the unique qualities of their South Thompson and Similkameen terroir, and refine the art of culinary excellence. With each innovation, Monte Creek Winery elevates the wine experience for connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike.

Certified Organic

Dedicated to the pursuit of successful and sustainable farming practices, Monte Creek Winery farms its vineyards with permaculture in mind. Benefiting from the desert climate, the vines experience minimal disease and pest pressures. Certified Organic as of September 2023, Monte Creek wines are authentic expressions of the terroir, showcasing the unique characteristics and environment of the grapes. This emphasis on natural farming not only preserves the integrity of the land but also results in wines with enhanced complexity and depth.

Grape Production – Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay, & Cold-hardy Grape Varietals

With two vineyards located in the stunning Thompson Valley at 50.6 degrees latitude, Monte Creek Winery is more than a destination for fine wines - it embodies a dedication to both innovation and sustainability. Through farming techniques such as burying the vines and utilising geo-textiles, the grapevines are meticulously nurtured, ensuring prosperity despite harsh winter conditions.

Monte Creek Winery has over 120 acres of grape vines, including a third vineyard site in the Similkameen Valley GI, specialising in cool-climate grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Riesling, and Pinot Noir. In addition, the winery is also growing cold-hardy grape varietals, such as Marquette and La Crescent.

"Our main priority in the vineyard is soil health. We believe that healthy soil leads to healthy fruit, which leads to higher quality wine." says Galen Barnhardt, winemaker at Monte Creek Winery.  “We celebrate the idea that great wines come from balanced vines and earth that is truly alive and thriving.  Within our vineyards, we promote and maintain an environment that is healthy and working with nature, not against it - with our goal being to farm for flavour. Our winemaking philosophy is to show the terroir, we have vineyards in extraordinary places and we want to highlight what makes our site unique by letting the wines speak for themselves.”

About Monte Creek Winery:

Through quality, innovation and sustainability, Monte Creek Winery in the Thompson Valley, is turning unique growing conditions into award winning premium wines. Situated on a biodiverse 1,200-acre property just a 10-minute drive outside Kamloops City, Monte Creek Winery offers guests a breath-taking view of 75-acres of vines.  Our tasting room is open year-round, welcoming visitors to taste, shop, dine, or host private events in the Thompson Valley.

Our wines are crafted with an understanding of the land’s geological history, the surrounding environment, and regenerative farming techniques, allowing our experienced team to create wines that represent this land. Our passion for sustainability has led us to believe in and practice regenerative agriculture, a practice that includes the rehabilitation and conservation of the ecosystem. Examples of these techniques include a compost program and using cover crop blends with Indigenous species.

Our three vineyards (Monte Creek, Lion’s Head and Keremeos) are farmed organically with permaculture in mind. Permaculture is an approach that looks at all the functions of plants and animals together, rather than treating them as a single product system. Our team has created a low-input farm. Every aspect of the farm, including the soil, water, climate, crop, people, and even buildings, is carefully scrutinised to improve sustainability.  We strive to lessen our impact on nature while maximizing working with it.
