Stay at the Inn at Laurel Point, Victoria, BC.

I love Victoria. It’s just over an hour and a half ferry ride from Vancouver, so it’s the perfect weekend getaway. The Island is so beautiful with so much to do which is why I try to make a trip there at least twice a year.

During our visit to Victoria this past weekend, my family and I spent two nights at the newly renovated Inn at Laurel Point. They recently re-opened after a multimillion dollar transformation, and as you can see, the results are quite stunning!

The Inn at Laurel Point is located at the mouth of Victoria's inner harbour. Designed to look like a ship coming into port, the building consists of two halves that became whole recently during a 2019 renovation and redesign. Originally built in the 1970s by Delta Hotels, "Delta Laurel Point Inn", as it was known back then, was made up of 127 deluxe rooms, a café and cocktail lounge, dining rooms and three banquet or event rooms.

In 1982, Paul and Artie Arsens, husband and wife, bought the hotel and it's surrounding property. In 1987, a second wing was added to the Inn. The expansion, completed in 1989, was designed by famed architect and friend of the Arsens, Arthur Erickson. The new wing (known today as the Erickson Wing) added 64 luxury suites, new meeting and event spaces, administration offices and a gift shop. The latest renovation brings the story full circle - the design was completed by John Graham, an architect that worked along with Arthur Erickson in the original expansion. The recent updates include new designs to the lobby, event space, garden area and restaurant.

There are two wings to the Inn - Laurel and Erickson. My family and I stayed in the Erickson Wing which has 6 floors. Our room had a minimal, classic and modern feel and I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and spacious it was. As a mother of two young, very energetic boys, I really appreciate when we can stay in a room with some extra space, and this room was spacious enough to allow us to move about. No matter the type of room you book, all rooms in the Erickson Wing come with an expansive terrace overlooking the harbour. It was the perfect spot to enjoy my morning coffee while watching a HELIJET land, and even more spectacular sipping on a glass of wine watching the sunset. So relaxing and tranquil.

If you’re like me, and you enjoy a nice bath, then having a huge tub is a must for a relaxing stay. The bathroom in our room reminded me of a spa and gave me such a zen-like, relaxing feeling. I love the gorgeous Japanese style sliding doors which opened up to a spacious bathroom with a huge deep soaker tub AND a stand up glass shower! To top it off, they also had L’Occitane en Province toiletries and bath bombs, which all smell heavenly. Thankfully, I got a chance to enjoy two baths while my boys spent some time at the pool. The heated indoor pool is reservation only due to COVID protocols, so only one group is allowed at a time. The boys and their dad got 45 mins of private pool time while this mama got to enjoy the glorious soaker tub and some much needed alone time!

I appreciate that the hotel made sure to keep their guests safe with numerous COVID protocols. All staff was in masks - elevators contained sanitizer bottles, and social distancing markers were everywhere in the public spaces. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Every time I saw a staff member I was met with a hello. On two separate occasions, I asked for directions and the front desk staff personally walked me to the location within the Inn. I was very impressed by the service.

Overall my family and I had a really wonderful stay at the Inn at Laurel Point. The renovations are stunning and the room was so lovely to come back to after a long day of exploring. The location was within walking distance of the downtown core of restaurants, sights and attractions, which was perfect. While I didn't get to view the rooms in the Laurel Wing, I would highly recommend the rooms in the Erickson Wing. I will absolutely stay here again my next trip to Victoria.
