Les Deux Magots

The famous "Les Deux Magots" cafe sits on a busy corner in the Saint Germain des Pres neighbourhood of Paris. It is the perfect spot to sit, have a nice breakfast, and enjoy the Parisian pastime of people watching. It was once a favourite of Ernest Hemingway and Picasso, among other writers and artists.

We started off with a cup of coffee and a croissant. And of course some bread - seems like morning, noon and night they serve you a bunch of bread. At first glance I wasn't too impressed with the croissant, but as soon as I tasted it, OMG!! It was crispy on the outside and so light and flakey on the inside with just the right amount of butter (A LOT!). So many layers of goodness in such a simple thing. Easily one of the best croissants I've ever had - or as my hubby puts it "this is so much better than the Superstore kind!". (alright then... ðŸ˜‚ )

I had the fried eggs and ham while my hubby had the ham and cheese omelette. The dishes themselves were pretty basic and well done, but what made this a great meal was the ambiance. It was so cool to sit outside and face the street watching the people stroll by like so many famous artists have done in the past. Parisians are so well dressed and well put together, it gives people watching a great vibe.

If you are in Paris, I consider this place one of the must visits. It's the quintessential Parisian cafe - perfect for people watching, relaxed service and great croissants.

I miss this little place already. Can't wait to go back!
