Lunch at The Patio Restaurant at Nk'Mip Cellars

Lunch at The Patio Restaurant at Nk'Mip Cellars

Nk’ Mip Cellars is North America’s first Aboriginal owned and operated winery.  While we didn’t get to take part in a wine tasting at the winery, we did enjoy a few glasses during our lunch on their outdoor Patio Restaurant.

Perched on the hillside in Osoyoos, the restaurant offers contemporary North American cuisine focused on using locally sourced ingredients that celebrate traditional Indigenous techniques.

To start, my husband and I ordered a glass of their 2019 rosé. The wine was lovely and added to the already perfect setting. I have to say there’s nothing quite like wining and dining al fresco, especially when you are surrounded by the beautiful view of the vineyard and Osoyoos Lake. There really is no bad seat in the house! Each table had a view but the best was right near the edge where we were lucky to have our seats.

For our starters, we ordered the Cheese and Charcuterie Board. You can never go wrong with a Cheese and Charcuterie Board, am I right?!. This went really well with our rosé. I loved everything on the platter - Capilano Salami, Beef Bresaola, aged cheddar, gouda, brie, pickled garlic scapes sweet and spicy pecans, apple slices, plum mustard and olive crostini.

I also ordered the Prawn & Nduja. This was so delicious! The prawns were plump, flavourful and perfectly cooked. Sautéed in a white wine butter sauce over spicy nduja salumi with pieces of rustic bread. I wish we had ordered two portions of this to share between the 4 of us.

For our mains we had the Sockeye Salmon & Fry Bread Crisps and the Nk’Mip Patio Burger. My kids each ordered the Mac and Cheese from the kids menu.

The panko crusted pan seared salmon was so moist and flaky. I love how the sweet potato purée added a hint of sweetness to the fish. The fry bread crisps and pickled beets mixed green completed the dish nicely. This was very tasty and filling.

My husband loved his burger! He was raving about it so much that I wish I had tried a bite but I was already so full.

Can’t go wrong with the Kid’s Mac & Cheese. It’s made with their house made cheese sauce, so not bad for $10.

The lunch items seemed a tad pricy but given the quality and the ambiance I would say it’s worth the splurge for a nice lunch. You can see the care that goes into each dish and the fact that the ingredients are all sourced locally really reflects the freshness in the food.
